Lisa Somers, a lifelong animal lover, brings over 25 years management experience to D-Train.
She played a big part in helping run her family’s business. During her time there, she managed a team of up to 15 employees, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, ordering product and making sure everything ran smoothly and efficiently and making sure all work was done correctly and promptly. A good portion of her time was spent in customer service always giving her personal touch and making sure the customer was well taken care of.
She found her true calling almost 6 years ago when she started volunteering at Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. She started off as a dog walker but knew she wanted to do more. She helped shape their BAT (Behavioral Assessment & Training) Team and has taken the lead to coordinate outside trainings with local professionals. She helped define and create volunteer workshops to keep the volunteers relevant and engaged. She is a volunteer trainer as well as assists in working with dogs with more challenging behaviors. You can regularly find her on “Transport Saturdays” helping match families with an adoptable dog that suits their lifestyle and does meet and greets if there is a resident dog, closely observing the body language of both dogs, making sure it is a good match. Lisa is also certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.
She is mom to her 2 children, Josh and Jenna, her 2 dogs, Billy and Ronnie and 5 cats and a hedgehog.
Sarah graduated from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry in 2014 with a degree in Conservation Biology. Earning her degree has strengthened her love and passion for animals that was already there for as long as she could remember. With an initial interest in working with wildlife, she soon discovered after graduating that she wanted to work with dogs. She went from memorizing scientific names of salamanders, to protecting endangered birds in Long Island, to running her own pet sitting business.
She has been offering her in-home pet sitting and dog walking services for several years. With her business, she was able to develop her skills working with dogs including; use of positive reinforcement, enrichment, and commands. Running a pet sitting business advanced Sarah’s skills in organization, time management, and planning. She eventually built a large client base that found her trustworthy and reliable for the job. Sarah also spent a year working for PetSmart in the grooming department. Here she was able to learn more about breeds, behavior, and how to handle and care for dogs in a stressful environment.
Sarah is also an advocate for adoption and for ending breed discrimination! She is extremely passionate about improving the lives of dogs in any way possible, and she knows that D-Train is the perfect avenue to make this happen.
